"What Was I Thinking?" Award goes to University of Massachusetts at Amherst

who awarded Robert Mugabe an honorary degree [in 1986]. This was several years after Zimbabwe's anticolonialist "liberator" had deployed his notorious Fifth Brigade – trained by his North Korean allies – to murder an estimated 20,000 members of the Ndebele people. Mr. Mugabe is tribally Shona.

Co-recipients of this award are Michigan State and the University of Edinburgh, who also conferred honorary degrees to Mugabe in 1990 and 1994, respectively.

Of course, my alma mater is not above reproach, for similar foibles such as inviting this nut onto the faculty.
