There have been quite a few reviews of the film Avatar that point out it is a criticism against imperialistic, militaristic capitalism*, such as Reihan Salam's piece.
I'm just wondering how far James Cameron could have gone with his cutting edge movie making techniques without the capitalism that fuels innovation, not to mention the same capitalism that can create the millions of jobs for which families can find the discretionary income to buy movie tickets.
*I'd like to think I am 0% imperialistic, 2% militaristic, and 98% capitalist outside my family, where free peoples accessing free markets can freely trade with each other, which reduces violence and the threat of war. Of course, I'm 80% socialist with my family. Funny that.
